Long Lasting!

Without my old ECHO Bear Cat I wouldn't be anywhere near as far along in our weed-whacking (we live in a high fire danger zone). Both the wheels on my new DR have failed and the mow ball (plastic) didn't last more than 20 hours before being worn out. Your new thick steel mow ball is the only thing that makes sense if you have land with a lot of rocks - it will outlast me probably. The 3-speed trans have never skipped a beat while my DR only has one speed. The ECHO Bear Cat wheels are still working fine. The ECHO Bear Cat wheels  are larger which makes it easier to go over bumps, ect. As of now, it looks like buying the DR was a mistake.

The ECHO Bear Cat CH45540 is the perfect match for your compact tractor. It's built with heavy-duty, 7-gauge steel. The 14 x 1 inch thick, 49 pound dynamically-balanced rotor utilizes two reversible heat-treated chipper blades and is driven by a double-banded belt for maximum power transfer. The cantilever mounted rotor design helps reduce wrapping while chipping wet, stringy wood types.

Also available is an optinoal 4.5 x 4.5 inch truckloading discharge chute with deflector cap. This optional chute directs the chips and raises the discharge of chips into the trailer or back of a pickup.

*NOTE - For Use On Tractors with PTO Horsepower Ratings From 15 hp to 28 hp

How long will the chipper blades last?
Depending on the type of wood, age and cleanliness, chipper blades will work well for between 5-15 hours. Dry, dirty wood will dull the blades faster. Alternate dry and wet material to extend blade life. Hydraulic feed machines will have longer blade life.
What are the tractor requirements for these chippers and chipper/shredders?
The ECHO Bear Cat 4.5" chipper requires a tractor with PTO hp ranging from 15hp to 28hp. The ECHO Bear Cat 5" chippers and chipper/shredders require a tractor with PTO hp ranging from 25hp to 45hp. The ECHO Bear Cat 8" and 9" chippers require a tractor with PTO hp ranging from 35hp to 60hp.
What are these chippers designed for?
The ECHO Bear Cat chipper is designed to effectively reduce the volume of wood, branches, and other organic material. The typical application for this product group is anywhere from light to commercial to municipalities, and/ or rental.
When do I buy a chipper powered by a tractor Power Take Off (PTO) vs. an engine-driven unit?
If you own a tractor a PTO chipper is a smart economic choice.
When should I buy a gravity feed machine?
If you have an infrequent need for a chipper and time is not a factor, a gravity feed machine will fit your needs.
When should I buy a hydraulic feed machine?
If time or efficiency is an issue, a hydraulic feed chipper allows you to be more productive.
When should I chip?
If you don’t plan composting the material, material is green and stringy or larger than 3/4" in diameter.
Will the chipper fit my tractor?
The ECHO Bear Cat chippers and chipper/shredders are designed to fit all Category 1 three-point hitches. Chipper weight and tractor hp needs to be taken into consideration. All Chipper models fit Category 1 Quick Hitch.
